Hudak experiences shrinkage

Posted in Uncategorized by gritchik on July 30, 2011

And they thought the abortion issue would never gain traction… The Tories have seriously underestimated how strongly pro-choice women (and pro-choice men) feel about protecting reproductive freedom, and access to it.

A poll done this week saw Hudak’s lead shrinking and suggests his views on abortion may have been part of the reason why:

“The one thing that can kill the Tories is to be caught out on a social issue and there’s nothing like abortion in terms of a social issue.”

Abortion will continue to dog Hudak right up until election day. I promise.

Don’t you love the fact that all the commenters and pundits who say that abortion is a non-issue or a dead issue are male? For women, reproductive rights is never a non-issue.

      Yeah, I’ve noticed that too.

I won’t lie, I think in the age of condoms, birth control pills, and the morning after pill, there is no excuse to “accidentally” get pregnant. And I would prefer woman put their babies up for adoption, simply because there are so many people desperate to adopt, (although, if they really want kids, there are lots of older kids desperate to be adopted).

But at the same time I don’t like men who aren’t the fathers of these kids, to be telling other people what to do with their bodies.

But in the end, as a gay man who will never father a child, I don’t think my opinion really matters.

I disagree with your statement that accidents shouldn’t happen – nothing’s fail safe.
And I definitely think you have a voice in this dialogue, I just don’t think the male opinion shouldn’t be the determining opinion.

Are you promising to keep copying other peoples delusions about a non-issue to confirm your obsessive hatred of all things conservative?

No one’s asking you to come here. I think we’d all be happy if you’d just fuck off.

GC, you do well to recognize that the Liberal attacks on Hudak’s views on abortion may have played a role in the decreased numbers for Hudak and the Conservatives. Moreover, to the extent that Hudak has suffered damage, it would be equally wise not to assume the Liberals are necessarily the beneficiaries.

If we strip the Star article of it’s Liberal shilling, we see
    1) the ONDP gained as much as the OLP (2% since last poll)
    2) the ONDP has been continuously trending upward and should be viewed in a virtual tie with the Libs
    3) not only does Andrea Horwath leadership numbers remain far ahead of the others, she received the greatest bump in approval rating of all leaders since last poll.

So, I would also quote from the article the following lines:
“Horwath’s approval is up to 63 per cent from 59 per cent and her disapproval down to 37 per cent from 41 per cent.

“She is making a great impression on voters,” said Bozinoff.
