Reg Alcock

Very sad to hear about the passing of Reg Alcock today.

I met him close to a decade ago when I was new on the Hill – as westerners we tended to cross paths frequently and we became friendly. And one day, in 2002, he asked if I would help with the Paul Martin leadership campaign. I politely declined his request and told him all the reasons why not. He appreciated the candour, he said. Even after that, even after I left the Hill for a while, whenever we ran into each other at political events I always got a warm hug from this giant of a man.
